DSC01361Taiwanese fast-rising young conductor Brian (Yuan-Hung )Liao is the 3rd prize of 2nd BMI International Bucharest Conducting Competition, the only prizewinner of the 2018 NTSO “International Young Talent Musician Project" conducting competition in Taiwan, and laureate of the orchestra prize of the 3rd International Conducting competition for Chinese music in Hong Kong. He was also the 6 semi-finalist of 7th Lovro von Matacic Conducting Competition in Croatia, the 10 semi-finalists in 2nd European Conducting Competition out of 300 candidates.

He is currently the Music Director of the International Keelung NTOU Music Festival and the assistant conductor at the St.Gellert Music Festival in Hungary. He has also assisted conductors such as Susanne Mälläki with Helsinki Philharmonic, and Alpaslan Ertüngealp with several major orchestras in Romania and Hungary.

In his brief conducting career so far, he has worked several major orchestras around the world such as South Denmark Philharmonic, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, Lucern Festival Strings, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra de la Opera Royal de Liege-Wallonie, George Enescu Philharmonic in Romania, Oradea Philharmonic, Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, Craiova Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Budapest Danubia Obuda Orchestra, Szolnok Symphony Orchestra (Hungary), St.Gellert Festival Symphony Orchestra, Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic, Mozarteum University Orchestra Salzburg, Taiwan Chinese Orchestra, Österreich Ensemble für Neue Musik, Kammerorchester Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, Kagoshima Philharmonic, Bela Bartok Chamber Choir, the Young Musician Foundation Orchestra of Singapore, among others.

He also participated in several international conducting masterclasses with distinguished conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Jorma Panula, Johannes Schlaefli, Yip Wen-Sie, Christoph Poppen, and Alpaslan Ertüngealp.
During the 2015-2016 season, he made his opera conducting debut in Salzburg with Britten’s opera “The Rape of Lucretia”, Mozart’s opera “La Finta Giardiniera” with Mozarteum University Chamber Orchestra and assisted Gernot Sahler in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin".

In addition, in 2017 he is one of the 12 finalists out of more than 200 young conductors in the Leverhulme Conducting Fellowship in association with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and a semi-finalist of the RNCM junior fellowship.
Currently, he is pursuing his Master ́s degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Salzburg Mozarteum University with a scholarship from the Taiwanese government and under the guidance of Bruno Weil, Alexander Drcar, Yoon Kuk Lee, Gernot Sahler (Opera Conducting), Reinhard Goebel (Early Music) and Karl Kamper (Choir Conducting).
